Balances
Debt Tracker automatically maintains all balances when payments, costs, or interest records are posted to an account. In addition, payments are automatically allocated to balance segments in the order specified by the owner of the account. Allocation consists of the following:

Debtor balances comprise four segments: principal (original debt), accrued interest, court costs, and attorney fees (optional). Any payment received must be allocated against the net remaining balance in each of the balance segments as the payment is received. Clients typically have their own requirement as to what segment order a payment is allocated; Debt Tracker can be configured to allocate payments in whatever order each client requires.

One set of fields in the Balance tab indicate the original amounts owed for each of the balance segments. A corresponding set of fields indicate the payments amounts allocated to each segment.  The net balance due is also displayed. As the actual balance owed may differ from the awarded judgment amount, Debt Tracker also displays the balances due versus the judgment. In the event of an overpayment, Debt Tracker displays the overpayment amount in flashing red to alert the user that refund is due to the debtor.
